Haven't seen some of these movies yet, I'm hoping I get the time to watch them soon.

#10: Point Break (1991): starring Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze, Gary Busey
The first movie on our list takes place in the costal town of Los Angeles, where a series of armed bank robberies by thieves (who wear masks of ex-presidents) sends the FBI combing the beach to find answers. Suspecting a group of local surfers as their culprits, a young agent is sent to infiltrate and discover the truth. This action packed crime story is filled with adventure, ensuring that the audience will be on the edge of their seat - or surfboard - during this great summer movie.

#9: Do the Right Thing (1989): starring Danny Aiello, John Tuturro, Spike Lee, Ossie Davis
On the hottest day of the summer, there isn’t much to do – aside from devise ways of keeping cool. In this comedy/drama, a neighborhood in Brooklyn cooks and sears in the summer heat, bringing everyone’s frustrations to a number of smoldering twists and turns. Written and directed by Spike Lee, this film places itself as one of the top classics of our time, earning an Oscar nomination for best writing and best supporting actor, Danny Aiello.

#8: Dirty Dancing (1987): starring Jennifer Grey, Patrick Swayze
This is the story of a 1950's family spending the holiday with her family at a camp in the mountains of upstate New York. The daughter, Baby (Jennifer Grey), begins to find a romantic interest in the most unlikely person – the camp’s dance instructor (Patrick Swayze). A tale of romance, drama and forbidden love, this summer tale has found its way into countless viewers’ hearts and will ensure that you have the time of your life.

#7: Dazed and Confused (1993): starring Jason London, Matthew McConaughey, Adam Goldberg
On the last day of school in 1976 Texas, incoming freshman and the class of ’77 can only begin to imagine what their summer will entail. Without a shred of evidence that this film was made in the 90s, it depicts the rights of passage of numerous teenagers while glorifying the times and reliving the 70s with utmost accuracy. Full of such entertainment, this summer classic will surely make you rock and roll all night – and perhaps party everyday.

#6: Summer of ’42 (1971): starring Jennifer O'Neill, Gary Grimes, Jerry Houser
A year after the United States entered World War II, the wife of a soldier waits on Nantucket Island for her husband to return. Meanwhile, Hermie – a teenager in a nearby cabin – becomes enticed by the woman, assisting her with small projects and providing company. A fine example on the transition from 1960s-1970s style of storytelling, this dramatic tale of innocence, purity and love will find a place in every viewer’s collection.

5: Stand By Me (1986): starring River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Kiefer Sutherland
A story based upon the reflection of a writer in his pre-teen years, Stand By Me is a fantastic tale about a group of boyhood friends who embark themselves on the summer journey of a lifetime. Set on finding another boy who has gone missing, this adventure is full of comedy, mystery, and suspense – everything a great story about summer has to offer. And since it’s based upon a short story written by Steven King and was nominated for an Oscar for best writing, this forever-young film will capture the imagination of anyone of any age.

#4: The Sandlot (1993): starring Tom Guiry, Mike Vitar, Denis Leary, James Earl Jones
Since baseball is America’s favorite pastime, it is only appropriate that summer be full of ballgames – old and new. The Sandlot is the story of a boy who moves to a new city and hopes to join the neighborhood kids while learning how to play baseball on the sandlot - the dirt field that they play on - that is their piece of paradise. No matter what age a person might be, this story about childhood baseball is full of adventure and mischief, and seems to always hit close to home.

#3: Caddyshack (1980): starring Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Bill Murray
This film is about an exclusive golf club that may have a few problems on its hands this summer – an audacious new member and an uninvited intruder. Taking place at Bushwood Country Club, this tale revolves around leisure summer activities and transforms into a rambunctious and comedic golf outing. With a cast of Chevy Chase, Bill Murray and Rodney Dangerfield, who could ask for more?

#2: Jaws (1975): starring Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss
No matter what age a viewer may be, this film has most likely given a majority of people some hesitation when stepping into the ocean. The overall success of Jaws makes it a landmark in the film genre, as well as being a must-see for anyone wanting to be entertained on a summer day. Directed by Steven Spielberg, this film enticed our imagination and curiosity – as well as our fear – of our world’s oceans and the creatures within it.

#1: Vacation (1983): starring Chevy Chase, Randy Quaid, Beverly D'Angelo
The best reason why people love summer is simple – vacation! – a chance for the family to get out of the house, travel to far away and interesting places, and perhaps discover something they never knew existed. Unfortunately for the Griswold family, their cross-country drive has a number of surprises in store for them, making this movie the best film to watch during the heat of the summer. It may give the viewer a sense of adventure, perhaps entice the family to pick up Aunt Edna and take a trip to Wally World, but it is guaranteed to dish out a luggage-rack worth of laughs.
